A river runs my life

Power and power walking

Marcus goes South from Bluff to Stewart Island to a tepee home stay, visits New Zealand's tallest lighthouse and finds a fitting replacement to Bluff's paua house.

Tepees, lighthouses and buoys

Marcus heads west to visit the site of the first flight in New Zealand, a beach covered in gems, enters a married woman's race and tells the story of the biggest thing to fall from space in New Zealand.

Rocks, races and things from space

Marcus traverses through the hardiest bush in the land to New Zealand's windiest, most remote spot, then travels by boat through Fiordland, tracing Captain Cook's boat journey and seeking mythical mooses.

Go west young man

Marcus tells the story of the Manapouri power dam - the workers, where they lived and the tales they told. He then heads inland to do the Milford Track the flash way before heading back to the coast.

Marcus travels the full length of the Clutha, telling its many and varied stories, covering gold, fruit, pies and a punt!

Marcus travels from the mouth of the Clutha back to Bluff, meeting rare penguins and an amazingly inventive man in a bus.

Home

SOUTH is a very personal offering from broadcaster Marcus Lush, and in this spectacular, top rating series, he delivers personal perspectives on the grit, charm and heart that makes up the fabric of South. Marcus explores Southland and Otago it's hidden majesty, almost unchartered waters, roads less travelled and reticent characters in some of New Zealand's most inaccessible and remote parts of the country. But it wouldn't be an exploration without testing a few personal limits, whether it was braving Foveaux Strait, canoeing down remote river gorges or trekking into the wilds of Fiordland, Marcus was up for it! And then, of course, there is the other star of the show - South itself. The stunning scenery is nothing short of breathtaking, to be seen to be believed.
