Exploring new places has always been at the heart of travel. So why do so many destinations today focus on offering the same things, the same experiences, the same look and feel?

The Global Destination

What's Next for Tourism?

The Question of Culture

What makes a destination attractive? The weather? Culture? Food and shopping? Beaches and activities? And what happens when popularity exceeds capacity?

The Saturation Point

Tourism is a $9 trillion industry - and growing. But where does all that money go? Are travellers getting the best bang for their buck? And are host destinations benefitting?

The Economy of Tourism

Development, pollution and water shortages threaten local lands as well as human and animal populations. How do we turn the tide of the environmental costs of travel?

The Environmental Impacts

Cultural experience is the backbone of tourism, but when does it become exploitation? With the commodification of cultures and traditions, is authentic travel still possible?

The tourism industry is in constant evolution, but with a projected 4.3 billion people expected to travel every year by 2050, have we reached its peak?

If money makes the world go round, perhaps nothing makes money go around the world like tourism. It has become one of the fastest growing industries in the world. But have the planet’s must-go-to destinations become victims of their own success? Overbooked explores the complexities of an industry that on one hand caters to the basic human desire of movement and hospitality but on the other, highlights the economic, environmental and social harm of mass travel.
